The Plight of the Children of the World orphaned by HIV/AIDSDr. Ruth Hayward, UNICEFs former Deputy Regional Director for South Asia.  She will also address poverty, hunger, and violence perpetrated against children in developing countries.

HIV/AIDS—A Historical Perspective.  Michael Gottlieb, MD, Published the first cases of AIDS in the US in 1981.  Trustee of the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) which conducts HIV/AIDS relief in Malawi.

Jan Singh, MD, The TB Control Project of the Los Angeles Public Health Department. ”TB:  Current Statistics Globally, Nationally & Locally”

Marcy Zwelling-Aamott, MD; Former president LA County Medical Association; Former President California Medical Association and Current Delegate to the AMA.  “National Health Insurance”. (lunch-time speaker—lunch provided).

Stephen Waterman, MD, MPH.  Divisions of Global Migration & Quartantine, CDC, Atlanta, Georgia; currently located at the California Office of Binational Border Health in San Diego.  “An Update on the Status of Malaria Globally and Its Presence in the Americas” (plus other mosquito (vector) borne diseases that might affect the United States, e.g. dengue fever).

Wendy Rashidi, MD, Founder & Director of Women’s View Medical Group.  In her 24 years as a practicing family physician, she emphasizes a preventive approach to optimize health through nutrition & a healthy life-style.  She will address nutritional issues of women & children, specifically what can be done nutritionally to improve maternal health & reduce child mortality globally.

Dr. David Diaz-Sanchez.  Chief, Clinical Research Branch, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Associate Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA.  His focus has been on how air pollution can both induce & exacerbate allergies & asthma.
